This is a nice radio for simplex GMRS. If you intend to use it with repeaters, be warned that you can only define a single code per channel transmit and receive will be the same.

There are many repeaters out there that have separate codes for transmit and receive, and you will not be able to use this radio on those repeaters. This is a major design flaw. A solid radio as long as you are only talking to other Midland users. But if you are talking with folks using other brand radios and wanting to use the repeater function, you will likely find you are missing parts of the conversation. Midland is aware of this but indicated that since I had my radio more than 30 days before I discovered the problem I happened to have another radio that continued to transmit the audio when the Midland wasn't , I was stuck with it.

The customer representative I talked with said "This is our first rodeo with this type radio. Make sure you push the RJ Plug in all the way in :. I find that I only need to run it on medium power 15w to communicate clearly with people many miles away in the mountain forests of the Pacific Northwest. The only issue that people might have is that it appears that repeater channels are either all on, or all off. You cannot enable repeater functionality per individual channel.

As this is not functionality that I use, I'm giving the radio 5 stars. With this radio, I'm never using a CB in my groups again. With the right antenna we are able to talk about 20 miles but our land is very flat. Great sound, no shortage of power and works well with ALL repeaters, not just some like other models. Now this is an amazing radio!

This radio has the range we need while scouting locations and are able to communicate with no problem.

Large bright, clean bedroom

By far the best! Well made, not some cheap radio! You will love it! By the way, it communicates with all brands of hand held radios! Motorola, Cobra, and of course, Midland. However, using privacy channels works best with the Midland. Have to just play with the privacy codes on the Motorola to find the right combination.

I am also using a Trunk Mounted Antenna! But this radio gets two major thumbs up! The entire crew enjoys it and everyone has them now. The first one that they sent me had a defective microphone jack but I called Amazon and within two days they sent me another one out, this radio works very well I get all of the repeater channels plus the regular simplex channels the output on the radio is 4.
